No Finish
- Wood part is left raw, will darken with age, exposure to an outside environment will cause it to turn gray
- Used when a rustic appearance is required, generally used on rough sawn wood
- Difficult to clean
Stained Only
- Wood part is stained only, will provide color but no real protection
- Low cost
- Used on lower end displays where cost is critical
- Can be somewhat cleaned with a damp cloth
Clear Lacquer Topcoat
- Wood part is sealed and topcoated with a clear catalyzed lacquer topcoat in flat, satin, or high gloss levels
- Moderate cost
- Used on most natural wood displays
- Readily cleaned with damp rag or commercial wood care products
Clear Polyurethane Topcoat
- Wood part is sealed and topcoated with a clear 2 component polyurethane topcoat in flat, satin, or high gloss levels
- Higher cost
- Used on surfaces that will see a lot of wear or need to be resistant to solvents or cosmetics
- Can be cleaned with fairly strong cleaners
